Sculpting the Future of Brain Health

Epilepsy Surgery

WE ARE BRINGING MINDS TO LIFE

Bringing Light to the Darkest Corners of the Mind

Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by bursts of irregular electrical activity in the brain. This electrical activity is known as a seizure. Seizures cause wide-ranging symptoms, from sensory disturbances to periods of staring, convulsions or loss of consciousness.

We provide whole-person care with neurological, neuropsychological and psychosocial treatments.
We are recognized leaders worldwide and have pioneered many of the innovations in epilepsy evaluation and surgical treatment. Extensive diagnostic testing means we determine the most effective treatment option that leads to the best chance of an optimal outcome

Our neurosurgeons use advanced techniques to treat infants, children, adolescents and adults with epilepsy

Neuroscience Through Surgery

POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF SURGERY

☑️Seizure freedom
☑️A reduction in seizure frequency or severity
☑️A reduction in the risks associated with frequent or severe seizures, including injury and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy
☑️Improvements in quality of life
☑️Potential reduction in medication in the long term

Epilepsy surgery is a treatment option for patients whose seizures are not controlled by medications. The goal of surgery is to remove or alter the area of the brain where seizures originate, to reduce or stop seizure activity
Surgery can significantly reduce or eliminate seizures, improving quality of life. However, risks include infection, bleeding, neurological deficits, or cognitive changes, which vary based on the surgery type and brain area involved

✔️RESECTIVE SURGERY: Removal of the brain tissue causing seizures (temporal lobectomy)
✔️LASER ABLATION: Minimally invasive destruction of seizure focus using laser technology
✔️DISCONNECTIVE SURGERY: Cutting pathways to prevent seizure spread ( corpus callosotomy)
✔️NEUROSTIMULATION: Implanting devices to regulate brain activity (responsive neurostimulation, vagus nerve stimulation).
What We Do

The aim of epilepsy surgery
is to improve quality of life

The aim of the surgery is to remove the underlying cause of the seizures and therefore cure the epilepsy. In some cases, however, it may only be possible to reduce the frequency of seizures as the cause cannot totally be removed

Our neurosurgeons’ depth of knowledge and high-quality, evidence-based treatments that offer patients the best possible outcomes have received accolades from respected peer-based organizations time and again
