Surgical Excellence for Neurological Challenges
Laminectomy
FROM BRAIN TRAUMA TO TRIUMPH
Laminectomy is a type of decompression surgery performed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves caused by arthritis, injury, a herniated disc, spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), bony overgrowths or tumors.
The surgeon creates space by removing part or all of the lamina – the piece of the vertebrae (backbone) that sticks out from the back of the spine – to relieve compression on the spinal cord or the nerve roots.
This surgery is sometimes paired with spinal fusion to stabilize sections where the lamina had to be removed. In this case, the surgeon joins (fuses) two vertebrae (backbones) together to prevent movement between them
Our Neuro surgeons treat more patients with disorders of the spine and spinal cord than any other program in the region, from simple disc surgery to complex reconstructive surgeries using minimally invasive approaches
